GCSL Member Lisa Trulaske Stewards Historic Russell Page Garden
The Garden Conservancy recently featured the historic Russell Page-designed gardens of Lisa and Steve Trulaske in its Spring publication. When the Trulaskes moved into their home, the garden was "an overgrown mess.” Their architect, Mark Critchfield, discovered a depiction of the garden's original design in a box in a safe in the basement. Using the drawing like a treasure map, Lisa and Mark began to explore the grounds and, to their astonishment, discovered a hidden reflecting pool, enclosed by three walls and an arched doorway, among other delights. Under the guidance of Mary Morgan, Lisa embarked on an ambitious project of restoration. The Garden Club of St. Louis is documenting the gardens, originally designed by Russell Page, acclaimed British garden designer and landscape architect, for submission to the Smithsonian’s Archive of American Gardens.
