Lifting Spirits with Flowers

Quarantining during the COVID-19 crisis is difficult and stressful for all of us, but it is especially hard on residents of senior living facilities in our area. Since they are at higher risk for COVID-19, residents must be isolated in their rooms much more than usual. Some are temporarily unable to have visits from family, and many group activities have been curtailed or cancelled. To help lift their spirits, The Garden Club of St. Louis arranged for local florists to deliver floral arrangements for them to enjoy during this difficult time.

How much food do we waste?

Answer: Almost 40%, enough to feed 1.6 billion people! The Garden Club of St. Louis hosted a screening of “Wasted; The Story of Food Waste,” narrated by celebrity chefs include Anthony Bourdain. The movie offers a frightening look at the scope and consequences of food waste, but also includes many inspiring stories of how chefs, businesses, and communities are working to minimize waste, and therefore reduce hunger and pollution and mitigate climate change.
